Limestone karsts over emerald sea — Andaman's most photographed coast.
定制旅游介绍 — Krabi?
A custom Krabi tour kayaks the Railay hongs at dawn before the longtail boats begin (the cave entrance time window is 2 hours around low tide), rock climbs on the Railay limestone at a grade appropriate to the visitor's experience with a guide certified by the Thai Mountain Guides Association, takes the private longtail to Phra Nang Cave Beach at 7 a.m. before the day boats arrive, and stays on Koh Lanta's west coast for the quietest beach in Krabi accessible by ferry. Railay rewards the early start; Koh Lanta rewards the stay.
Krabi Province is Thailand's most geologically dramatic region — a 4,708 km² province of mainland limestone karst, mangrove-fringed coastline, and 154 islands in the Andaman Sea. The Phang Nga Bay karst formation extends into Krabi's interior, producing the vertical limestone walls of the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park and the sea-level karst of Ao Phang Nga that makes Railay Beach (no road access, surrounded by 400m cliffs) one of the most photogenic beach settings in the world. The province is also the location of Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Seua), with 1,237 steps to a summit Buddha and panoramic karst views.
The marine environment of Krabi's island chain — Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi Don and Leh, the 4 Islands (Koh Muk, Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai, Koh Libong) — varies from the busy Phi Phi tourist circuit to the largely undisturbed marine national parks of the lower Andaman chain where dugongs feed on seagrass and whale sharks pass March–April. Koh Lanta's east coast mangrove is one of the largest in Krabi, and the west coast beach (10km of continuous sand) is the longest beach in southern Thailand.
November through April is the optimal season: clear skies, calm Andaman Sea, and 28°C water. May–October is monsoon: the west coast islands are closed (Phi Phi, Similan) but the east coast of Koh Lanta and the mangrove kayak routes are navigable. Rock climbing on the Railay karst (1,200 established routes from grade 5a to 8b) is the world's most dramatically located climbing destination. Tours start at €2,400 per person.

Yes — Railay has some of the best beginner climbing in the world. The Muay Thai Wall (grade 5a–6b) has 30+ single-pitch routes accessible to first-timers with a half-day introduction. The quality of THAIMGA-certified guides in Railay is high — the most experienced have been working these routes for 20 years and can teach anyone with basic coordination to top a 5b route in a half-day. The setting (limestone karst above the Andaman Sea) is the world's most spectacular for a first climbing experience. Full-day programs for beginners include technique instruction on the ground, beginner routes, and a sunset abseil from the cliff top.
November–April (dry season) for the beach: calm Andaman Sea, clear water, and no rain. The rock climbing is best in the cooler months (December–February) when the humidity is lower and the rock is dry. The Phra Nang Cave Beach is best between 7–9 a.m. before the day boats arrive — 40 longtail boats unload visitors between 9 a.m. and noon. May–October: the west beach closes due to swell, but the east beach and the climbing remain accessible on calm days.
The cave swim is not dangerous in calm conditions — 90m of swimming in total darkness with a headtorch, the water typically waist-deep, emerging into an enclosed lagoon. The danger is the entrance swell: any swell above 0.5m makes the cave entrance a surge zone that can throw a swimmer against the cave walls. The guide's assessment of conditions is critical — an experienced guide will refuse entry when conditions are borderline, not just when they're clearly dangerous. A private longtail with an experienced local guide is safer than a group tour where commercial pressure can override safety judgment.
Phuket is an island with extensive resort infrastructure, Patong's nightlife district, and the gateway to the Similan Islands. Krabi is a mainland province (with offshore islands including Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi) with a more rugged landscape (the inland karst), fewer mass-tourism facilities, and the better climbing. Krabi's beaches (Railay, Phra Nang) are more dramatic. Phuket's beaches (Nai Harn, Surin, Bang Tao) are wider and have better hotel infrastructure. The two destinations are connected by 2-hour ferry or 1-hour speedboat — a combined 10-day itinerary is the most common structure.
Koh Lanta is the quietest of the main Krabi islands — longer than Koh Phi Phi (10km west coast beach), with a Muslim fishing community rather than a party culture. The west coast beaches are good but not exceptional; the south (Kantiang Bay) is the best. The east coast is all mangrove — the kayak tour is among the best in southern Thailand. Koh Lanta is for people who want a base with less tourist density, longer beaches, and the option of day trips to the Koh Haa marine park and the Mergui Archipelago. The Lanta Old Town is worth half a day: wooden stilted shophouses from the 19th century that were the original administrative center of the south Andaman coast.
